Specific Enemy Tome-Dropping? - Guild Wars Forums

I've farmed several areas in Hard Mode now.... and I've started to notice some trends which.... well... I'm not sure if they're actual trends or just coincidence...

Certain enemies tend to drop skill tomes while others seem not to. I can't quite fathom why...

For instance...
Kappas do seem to drop Elementalist Tomes.
Mantid Monitors do seem to drop Monk Tomes...
... while Mantid Drones do NOT seem to drop Necromancer Tomes...
Bladed Termites do seem to drop Warrior Tomes...
Prayer Lancers do NOT seem to drop Paragon Tomes...
And I've never had a tome from any of the Corsair types...

Now... to put things in perspective... I have killed pretty much exactly as many Mantid Monitors as Mantid Drones... and number-wise we're talking around 100 or so of each. I have had around 8 Monk Tomes and no Necromancer Tomes. I had rather hoped I could get at least ONE Necro tome outside Ran Musu... but no such luck.
Regarding the insects, I have killed at best guess around 20 Bladed Termites and 10 Prayer Lancers in Hard Mode... had 3 Warrior Tomes and no Paragon Tomes. Nothing from the Corsairs as I said.

This hardly makes it official... but it is certainly enough to make me speculate if only certain enemies drop tomes at all...

If you want necro tomes, perhaps try the skales outside of lion's arch? there're lots of them, and they're ALL neccros. Bring good regen though, they're SS and hex spammin on toppa soul barbs fiends.

Oh, technical detail on this if anyone cares: While each and every one of the bog scales casts life siphon on you, and it will trigger soul barbe every time, it will only give one skale the regen.

Can you assure me that those Skales actually DO drop Necromancer tomes?

That is to ask whether you have personally farmed them and seen them drop tomes....?

Here's what I can assure you of, ANY necro classed critter *can* drop necro tomes, I've gotten them from the mantids outside of Shing Jae even if you haven't. The point is that it's random, and your best bet is by killing a LOT of them, there's no other place I can think of with that many necros right outside of town...

Edit: To get a statistically viable sample size, you'd need more on the order of 1000s to millions killed (or served

), and at the very least (for merely statistically suggestive) hundreds.

Oh well...

I've found the Undead in Fahranur, the First City can drop Necromancer tomes..... so all is not lost anyhow.
I'm sure I'll get the oppurtunity to check up with the Mantids later (probably using my Necromancer, since she can kill them more efficiently than my Monk)

I'd go right for the Bog skales, really... if only because you don't have to chase the stupid gits all over hell and back, you can just move forward a step and get 2 more.

enemies drops their profesion tomes.

ive farmed margonites, and all the tomes i have gotten are monks, mesmers, dervishes and warriors, and guess what margonites i kill, yep, the ones that are warriors, mesmers, dervishes and monks.

as lennymon said, you have to kill loads of them before they drop, and same thing applies for elite tomes, you want an elite tome of a specific class? farm that specific class boss.

For elite tomes, the dogma is that only a boss which has an elite skill in normal mode can drop an elite skill tome. I have killed the 2 elemental bosses in old ascalon several hundred times, and guess what... no *elite* tomes, gotten a few regular ones. I then went and slaughtered tomtom spiriteater (hes a factions yeti Rit boss) 12 times, and now have 2 shiny new elite rit tomes, and merched 3 of his greens. I'm not saying the Dogma is fact, but... my data seems to support it.

I'm moderately sure of that too.

I've had 4 Elite Monk Tomes from Byzzr Wingmender... but never a normal Elite Tome....
Never got a sodden thing from Tahkayun Tsi in Kinya Province... but then I haven't killed him all that often yet...

Still though... I'm yet finding the same thing: that some enemies just don't seem to drop tomes while others drop them frequently.
